19 month old toddler tantrums

He hits me and throws things now when hes upset. Just started these past few days. He hits me once and waits for a response. I would tell him stop and walks away. If he throw things, I walk away and tell him to stop too. But it doesn't seem like it works. We are thinking of a time out chair. Any other advice on how to deal with this?

Hi there, here are couple of things and resources to consider. I hope this helps in some way. - Rather than walking away, try to stay with him in that moment. He is seeking your attention and affection, even though he’s doing so in a negative way. While it’s good to try to correct that behavior (by saying calmly “do not hit me” or blocking his hands and saying, “I won’t let you hit me”), try to figure out what it is he needs in that moment. - I recently read this article about how the Canadian Pediatric Society is now recommending “time ins” rather than time outs and even goes as far as to say that time outs should not be given to kids under 3 years old. Definitely something to consider. https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/positive-parenting-canadian-paediatric-society-1.XXX-XXXX - I’m a big fan of Janet Lansbury. Look her up and search around her website. She has a ton of articles and scenarios like this and will map out how to handle them.
