2-1 nap transition

I finally transitioned by 18.5 month old to 1 nap after a week of early awakenings and fighting her naps (playing in crib, not sleeping) So yesterday we went out and she went down at 1245p and slept 1.5 hours. I left her until 2 hours hoping she’d go back to sleep. Then she was a bear the rest of the day. I have friends whose kids take these monster 2-3 hours naps when they go to 1 nap. How do I get that? :(

Following! My son is 15.5 months and I fear that when I do transition to one nap that he will only sleep for an hour or so.

It takes time! And 1.5 hours isn’t bad! Make sure she’s exhausted and worn herself out in the morning too. It also depends how much sleep she’s getting at night. If she’s sleeping 12 hours she may only need what she’s taking. Some days we get an hour and sometimes 2.5.

Food! I have 16 mth old twin girls that transitioned early at just under 15 mths. My older son did it textbook at 18 mths. But the girls took a few weeks to work out the kinks. A good lunch around 11:30 and napping by 12:15 works the best. I find the later it is, the more fussing and the nap is shorter.

My 21 month old only naps for an hour usually. If I’m lucky she’ll sleep an hour and a half and if I’m really lucky 2 hours. I’ve tried everything, waking her up early, lunch before nap, snack before nap, nap at 11, nap at 2 and none of it mattered. She’s not grumpy during the day, so I think her short naps are fine for her. I think some kids just don’t like naps as much, or don’t want to miss out

Ahhhhhhhhh same!!! I thought that going to one nap would make him sleep longer and that definitely hasn’t been the case. But it’s been almost a month now and he’s taking a 2 hour naps more often than a 1 hour nap but it did take a while. I started at 12:00 and found that 12:45/1 was more of his sweet spot! I’d say play around w timing.

my son is 14 months and on one nap. he made the transition probably 1.5 months ago. it took him awhile to get used to having only one nap. after a couple weeks, his naps got longer and longer as his body realized that was the only naptime now. sometimes (rarely) he’ll sleep 3hrs but usually it’s closer to two. he definitely still has only 1hr days though. I just let him do whatever he needs. if he’s cranky later in the day, we take “rest” time where he doesn’t nap but i’ll hold or rock him for 5-10min and let him lay on me and rest without sleeping. that helps a lot!

Sometimes you have to just follow your little ones lead: I can only speak from what I went through. I wanted to sleep train and I was ready for all the perfect situations and outcome but believe it or not my little is the one that showed signs of of dropping second nap I want to say right before turning one. He is now 19months takes one nap between 1130 and 1230 and u can just tell by behavior he’s tired and ready to rest. This can be 1.5 to 2,5 hours naps and ready for the rest of the day. I would say a tune into how they feel to beat determin when the ideal nap time should be so they actually enjoy nap and their day

Just today I had to try one nap since my son woke up a tad later than usual and we had to be out of the house all morning. I didn’t wind up getting him down for his nap until 1:45 and he slept just under an hour. Now it’s not even 3 pm and I’m wondering if he will make it until bedtime or if I will be forced to give him a later nap in a little while. I definitely don’t think we are ready to fully transition quite yet!
