5 year old with a bad dry cough?

My son has came down with a cold for the past 4 days, but since last night he has had this uncomfortable bad dry cough nonstop . What can I give him. I think I’ve tired everything so far, but it’s not going away.

Get a humidifier, and Baby Vick’s. Also m? Getting him in the bathroom with the hot water of the shower running and letting that steam get in his lungs will help get that cough a lot less! Also, you can put Vick’s on the bottom of his feet, and put a pair of socks on him, and that will help suppress the cough and open up the respiratory system so he isn’t suffering from the dry cough!!! Hope that helps! Sincerely fellow mama bear!

If those tips don't help, have him evaluated for asthma and allergies. Mold allergies are bad this year.

Zarbee’s makes a cough syrup and also use a humidifier and also some Vick’s on chest and feet at night!

@Rosa You’re welcome, I’ve been thinking about this for a while since I posted a response for you! Something else you may try is like Sarah said, keep him well hydrated, pedialite, water, and I don’t really give my kid much juice but juice and you could do what I do and give him water with fresh or frozen fruit to give him flavor without all the sugar. But also what I was thinking about it, make sure to have him sleep elevated- about 30* degrees or so, a couple pillows will do the trick, or maybe let him sleep in a recliner if you have one. We use my old nursing pillow to prop under my son when he’s got a cough- what this accomplishes is keeping them elevated so if there is anything in his lungs or trying to settle in his lungs it will keep it from doing so, and not allow it to settle and progress into pneumonia or bronchitis if it’s at all productive. I hope that makes sense! And yes, I totally agree with Tina- Dr Zarbees cough syrup is fantastic! I use that when my kiddo gets a cough!!!!
