8 months still not holding bottle?

Anonymous

Every time I let him hold his bottle he thinks it’s a toy and plays with it instead of drinking. Should he be able to hold his own bottle at this age? I’m waiting for him to hold his own bottle so that we can transition him to a sippy cup/straw cup.

Yes. But he’s probably just enjoying having mommy do it for him 😊 Keep helping him.

My daughter is 9 months and still only holds the bottle for herself if she is laying on her back. So if I can’t sit with her and feed her, I lay her down and position her hands on the bottle so she will hold it. I do plan to try to get her to move to the sippy with handles thinking it will help her in the process

My daughter never once held a bottle herself. Had no problem with sippy cups at all. I think it’s the handles.

Holding a bottle isn't a necessary step in transitioning to a sippy cup. We use glass bottles which are VERY HEAVY so I never expect my daughter to be able to hold them... I barely can! You can offer a sippy cup with water when you offer solids so your baby can start to get practice.

I know it’s not a necessary step. I just would like him to hold it himself. I’ve tried giving him a sippy cup before but he’s just not interested.

My 8 month old holds her bottle, but most of the time I have to hold it for her so she eats all of it. Otherwise she tosses it around.

    Just give it time!
