I started talking to my daughter about the potty before we actually started training. We read books, watched shows and role-played with her toys and dolls. Then we bought a potty seat that sits on top of our regular toilet and I sat her on it every morning after she woke up and after naptime. Eventually we added in before bed and after meals. She loved it at first and then went through a spell where she wanted nothing to do with it. I laid off for a bit, didn’t wanna force her. And then we started the same routine again a month or so later and she has taken right to it! She lets me know when she needs to go usually and I always ask her if she needs to when I go. Sometimes I remind her after meals or before bed. We’ve also started using stickers for incentives. We have a “potty poster.” It doesn’t track anything, it’s just a poster with Elmo and Cookie Monster on it (she loves them) and she gets to pick out one sticker when she pees and two when she poops and she gets to put them on her poster. It has really encouraged her to continue going! Hope this helps!

I made a potty chart attached to a present and at the end she got to open it. It worked she hasn't had an accident since. she only got a sticker for the day if she went accident free all day. Before this we tried the candy after potting but after we thought she had the hang if it and stopped giving it to her. She would go back to having accidents. The present she didnt expect something every time she went potty. So it worked a lot better for her. After i framed it and it makes a cute bathroom decoration.

Wow. Thanks Emily. That is so creative! Thanks Samantha. He’s been telling me when he goes in his pamper. So I took that as him being ready. The reward system sounds promising. Thanks for the tips!

Niashya I would just pick his favorite food. We got my son potty trained with grapes. 1 grape for pee, 2 for poop. He loved it and was not hyped up on candy!!
