We’re in the process of potty training my 2 and a half year old. It’s not for the faint of heart for sure! We are wearing training pants instead of pull-ups or regular underwear, it has a thicker layer of material so if he has an accident it doesn’t make as big of a mess, but still feels like underwear. You can get them on amazon and I’m sure Wal-mart or other stores would have them too. The other thing we do is reward with candy. I have a container of Skittles sitting on the sink, when little man goes pee in the potty he gets one Skittle, when he does Pooh he gets two. Just a little incentive to motivate him to use the potty. Best piece of encouragement an older mom once gave me it to make it fun, and not stress, that they will learn when they are ready and she promised me that he wouldn’t be 18 and still needing pull-ups. My first was the perfect example of that, we struggled for months to train him while I was pregnant with my second, I didn’t want two in diapers. But despite my efforts, #1 was still in pull-ups when #2 arrived. Two weeks later, he just decided he was ready and we didn’t have to use pull-ups at all after that.
