After our fourth child my wife is having issues with her self esteem, how can I help her?

I’ve been going to the gym for the past two month to lose the sympathy weight but I can’t get my wife to participate with me mainly due to the fact that her dad used to punish her as a kid by doing physical activity so her cognition of exercise is twisted.

Dance with her, take walks with her, exercise doesn't have to be the gym. Physical activity was used as a punishment for me too so the gym is not a good place but movement is fun! Take up a hobby like hiking or rock climbing or hey some dance lessons!

Tell her you love her no matter what weight she is, and don’t pressure her to lose it.

That’s a hard one. Ultimately, it needs to come from her when she’s ready. Not knowing your wife I can only speak to what might work for me... Maybe this is too forward, and I apologize, but try being intimate without making it about sex. I can’t tell you how far a romantic kiss or a lingering hug can go. Find ways to hold her, especially in crowds; it demonstrates without saying that you love her, and you belong to one another. You know that saying, “Actions speak louder than words”? Well, in this case they really do. Start with the emotions, then focus on the physical activity.
