Antidepressants while pregnant/breastfeeding

I am due with my first baby in June. Anyone on any antidepressants that are safe for pregnancy and for breastfeeding? My therapist wants to start me back on one before baby is here in case I have post partum depression.

I was on 100mg sertraline (Zoloft) while pregnant my son was 5 weeks early and had withdrawals it last 3 days it wasnt too bad but dr said if it was worse there are meds they can give babies for withdrawal. That was the only complication he had due to my meds. Atm im back on it and ttc again and know that the next one can have the same reaction so may decrease my dose a little as i get closer to due date. I also pumped for first 6weeks with my son he had probably half my milk half formula. I stopped due to starting other meds. For me the risks of me not being on them out weighed the risks being on them.

I was on Zoloft but went off by the end of my first trimester and didn’t go back on. I was ok Zoloft for years and it helped me tremendously, but since becoming a mom I have not needed it. No two stories are the same though, however I honestly wouldn’t go back on them “in case” you have PPD. PPD isn’t a certainty and for me, I would rather not take things that aren’t needed (but would definitely start them again if they were needed!!).

I definitely agree with both of you. I just feel like all the decisions are overwhelming. I’m already on a medication I haven’t wanted to be on during this whole pregnancy. Some medical professionals say it’s ok. Others don’t. It’s really hard to make decisions. 😭

😪😓I know except how you feel!!! Just remember that we all go through this in one way or another and all we can do is make the most informed decision possible!!

I was on prednisone my whole pregnancy too and that can cause problems too but it seemed to be ok. It is overwhelming when some drs say yes and some say no to the same thing. You have to do what you feel is right for you and your baby, if your not depressed now then maybe wait until your baby is here and be on the lookout for ppd. I have arthritis that flairs with pregnancy so i get a lot if pain which in turn cause more depression so for my situation its the best for me and my baby to be on it during pregnancy. Check with your obgyn and see what they suggest too.

I was on prozac but cut off all medications the minute I found out. For me, having a baby born and going through withdrawals wasn't worth it. Luckily, with my pregnancy my severe depression went away. My daughter is now 19mo and I have yet to deal with depression again (after having it for 7 years).if you go on medication, do an extremely low dose. Weigh the pros and cons.
