Any advice on clipping a toddler's toe nails?

He’s okay with his finger nails, but clipping his toe nails is the worst! I usually try to do it while he sleeps, but lately he’s been waking up from it. I’d like to get into a routine of doing it while he’s awake without him melting down.

Either while drinking or if they watch tv or while they sleep

He’s like hyper aware of the clippers and ticklish-does not like his toes touched.

I used to clip my son's toe nails while he is strapped in his high chair. The tray stops him from from reaching down for the clippers and I usually just give him a snack while I do it.

Took me a few times to figure out my daughters toes were ticklish go figure right? I found if I hold the toe between my thumb and forefinger pressing gently while clipping it removes the ticklish sensation. Now she doesn’t seem to mind

🤪 After a very thorough bath time I used to bite off my sons toe nails. It was actually recommended by the Dr. My sons toes were extremely ticklish and would peel weird. Now at almost 3 he does just fine with toe nail clippers.

Try doing it 10 mins or so after he falls asleep, when his arms are soft and he’s in a deep sleep.

Hi! I usually get my 5yrs old and 1yr olds done before bath or shower time and they know it’s coming! Hope it helps:)

Distraction, distraction, distraction! If he's waking up now, try right before nap time. Give him a baby massage with some lavender or bedtime lotion, hand him a lovey or his bottle before u get to his feet then get too it. U can also do it right after bath time since the nails are softer....much easier to trim. Make it a game.

We strap my son into his high chair, give him some snacks to distract him and just clip away. It’s possible he’s which case a firm grip is usually much preferred as it reduces the tickle took me 30+ years to be able to stand getting a pedicure, so I feel for you. 😂

I’d always had his dad distract him and play with him in his chair while I clipped his toes and he was ok with that!

I always do it with diaper changes. I engage my son with toys so he doesn't fuss during the change, and if he doesn't know what I'm doing he does not fight me.

I find it easier to clip my kiddos nails right after bath time. Their nails are not so hard and it doesn't bother them as much. My second child would also wake when I clipped her for nails so I just give her a bath binky and cartoons and we're good to go.👍😁

I let my toddler hold my phone and watch YouTube videos. I warm him up to me touching his feet by playing with them - sniffing it, playing with the toes and counting them. I also let him inspect the clippers. When he was a baby it was sort of easy to clip his nails. Then when he became aware of what I was doing there was a time period that he would fight with me on it. After letting him see the clippers, and letting him watch me clip my own nails he isn’t so scared of it anymore. He just acts annoyed.

I like to do it when we’re sitting on the floor reading and I just make it all dramatic like OMG LOOK!!!! And show him the nail lol and SHHHH LISTENN!!!! Did you hear the click click??? And look look look!!! So he’s trying to focus and see what’s so cool 😂 usually only do one hand/foot at a time, take a break then do the other

I used to put my daughter in the high chair and give her an activity to distract her.
