At what age does a baby realistically need to start wearing shoes? My almost 10 month old is standing and cruising around furniture, trying to take steps on his own. I went to look at shoes for him today and they’re about the same price as an adults 😳 I want to buy a good pair such as stride rite with good support. I just don’t know if he really needs them

I would say if he is standing and trying to walk you should get shoes for him. Also, babies his age are flat footed, and grow out of shoes and everything else so quick, good fancy shoes are not needed, just basic cheep ones like the $10 Walmart’s are plenty good

I didn’t put my daughter in shoes until she was comfortably walking (about 14 months) and I was lucky enough to have some hand me down stride rites (size 4). Our pediatrician said she should walk barefoot in the house and not to worry about shoes until she would be out walking in the world.

My oldest walked at 9 1/2 months and I had him wear Robeez slipper type shoes when we’d go in public. At home he was barefoot all the time. My 2nd one walked at 12 months and I had him in these Hannah Anderson slipper socks with a suede bottom to walk in. I never wanted to invest in shoes, they all looked uncomfortable and too stiff. Both these options worked perfectly

I agree he still doesn’t need “real” shoes. Those slipper sock things my kids hated. I left my daughter in just socks until she started needing something more substantial because we let her cruise outside sometimes. Watch stride rite like a hawk. They have really great sales sometimes. I love their shoes for beginning walkers. My daughter was lucky to get some hand me downs and I bought a pair on a carters sale.

Went and got a decent pair for my 9 mo old to cruise in his walker outside on the porch, less then 15$ Walmart

When mine transitioned from baby to walking toddler, we started putting on shoes in public places like stores and such. Barefoot as much as possible is still best for development, though.
