Baby won't stop putting his fingers in his poo

C

When he's on the changing table and I'm changing him out of a poopy diaper, he will reach down once I've unfastened the diaper and get his fingers into his poo. Only with poopy diapers. I know babies are curious and learning about textures, but I'd rather not with this. Distracting him with toys to hold only sometimes works. I thought about pinning his arms down under the changing table's seat belt, but that positions his hands right in the diaper area. How do I convince him it's not ok to play with poop? How do I get his hands out of the way so that we're both happy with it?

My LO does the same. Give him a non-toy to play with. My LO loves playing with her clean diapers, saline nasal spray, bulb syringe, and honestly, anything that is on the changing table that isn't a toy. Sometimes I also give her books. This way her hands are busy until she is at least clean and then I will let her touch.

Maybe u can “wrap” his arms in his onesie if he still wears one. I “ taught” my kiddo to keep her arms up or on her chest. I say where do your arms go and she shows me.

I stopped changing my LO on the table and put her on the rug, floor, couch, etc. Then when she’s really squirmy I put one leg over her. Might work for your kid’s curious hands.

I play peek a boo by throwing his pants on his head, or sing "if your happy and you know it" because they have to clap their hands. Or pin his arms with my feet if I have to.

It’s dumb but I give my baby some wipes. If you’re going to be down there anyway, you might as well help 😂

Bethany that’s a great way to help your little one start to learn how to clean themself! 😊
