Babysitter payment

So I have never hired a paid babysitter before, but now i need someone on a reoccurring basis one afternoon a week for after school care. It will be approximately the same amount of hours every week, but will vary a bit depending upon how long it takes my husband to get home from work. Should i offer to pay a flat daily rate, or on an hourly basis? And if hourly, do you pay by the half hour/15 min etc? What's a normal breakdown?

If the variation of hours per week is all dependent on traffic I would just do a flat rate and discuss that with the sitter and see if they’re ok with that. If not... and you really like the sitter then hourly? If you choose to do hourly, we always round up with our sitter. We were out for date night and owed our sitter $75 plus 5 min so we just rounded up to an even $80. Her rate was $15/hr. Some times it’s a bigger amount that we round up to based on the cash we have on us.

Pay hourly. Anywhere from 12-15 an hour.
