Bedtime Routine Ideas

Hello all! Currently all my children ages 5,3, and newborn are sharing a room with each other. My 5 yr old and 3 year old have rare sleeping issues that could be disturbing to the newborn (5 year old sleep walks/talks and 3 year old fights sleep due to fear of dark that flares up) Our nighttime routine is pretty solid. Dinner, clean up time, bath/ book time and then bed. I try to get them in bed by 8:45 during weeknights and 9:45 at the latest on Friday and Saturday. This being said I have just had a newborn and am looking to see how any other moms go about getting multiple children to bed. I'm usually the only one home in the evening and don't want to make any drastic changes to the routine I have in place because it works but I would appreciate any help you can offer.

I give you credit because I am in the same boat with having to put the kids to bed alone every night, but I have a 6 and 2 year old, you have one extra! I can imagine it’s tiring. I usually do dinner, baths together and then I put my 2 year old to bed at 7 pm while my 6 year old does homework or is allowed to watch tv in my bed until I’m done putting the little one down. Then he goes to bed at 8:30 so we have a little bit of time just us together which he misses since his sister was born. With a newborn I’m sure it’s a lot harder, I wish I had some advice!

Jess, I am sure the transition from two to three won't be that much different but I am just trying to figure out how exactly do others transition with the little ones. I am thinking about not changing the time they go down and using the baby monitor to make sure that they are asleep before putting baby in bed.

That’s a good idea! I know that was always the most worrisome part for me was not knowing what my son was doing while I was trying to get the younger one to bed.
