BF: how to balance life and baby

Breastfeeding moms: How do you balance regular life things and your baby’s schedule? We are at 6 months now and it feels like every time I have recovered a little bit of freezer stash (I had none after returning to work), we hit another growth spurt or I got my period and end up burning through it. We’ve started solids now, but even with that our baby hit another spurt over Thanksgiving and I’m now about to run out of freezer stash to supplement what I’m pumping. I was really excited prior to the week of Thanksgiving—I had about four bottles worth of freezer milk and was looking forward to an evening birthday party for one of my friends. Now I’m down to one pouch (less than half a bottle) so I won’t have enough milk on Monday for daycare if I go to the party and leave baby with husband. Feeling very discouraged and frustrated. I already drink close to 2 gallons of water daily plus eat oatmeal and lactation cookies etc to keep my supply up and just feel like it’s never going to get better.

I don’t produce more than an ounce when I pump so baby is with me 24/7. It hurts a lot when hubby or my mom says “just pump so we can go do something!” and I don’t know how to get them to wrap their heads around the fact that it’s really not an option for me. My mom even tries to get me to give up on BF for this reason... I don’t really have any advice, just saying I feel your frustration mama! You’re doing awesome.

Just keep at it. If your breast feeding also if you increase how often it’ll increase supply. But it’s annoying to feel like you aren’t doing enough we all relate

Sometimes hearing baby crying can increase flow I’ve read as well and I think it does work

I have to be looking at pics/vids of my baby doing cute things when I’m pumping. As for supply, if you have a lazy day coming up that you and baby can just be skin to skin all day with free access to the boob, your body should take that as a cue to make more. Just remember, your supply won’t boost over night, it may take a couple weeks. Good luck!

I have started supplementing breastmilk with formula and it took a lot of pressure off bc he will take either. I prefer BM but if needed he gets formula and I don’t feel the leash of nursing/pumping as much now
