Breastfeeding & pregnant

Hi all. I have a 16 mo daughter and I’m 12 weeks going on 13 weeks pregnant. We’re super excited to grow our family and I’m adamant about continuing breastfeeding until my babies self wean. We also bed-share and I’ve been getting plenty of sleep since my 16 mo was born. Recently though I’ve been getting irritated with nursing at night all of a sudden and haven’t been able to sleep through it for the last 3-5 days. Does anyone know if this is related to pregnancy and can tell me if this will pass? It doesn’t hurt at all it just keeps me awake it almost tickles. Up til now my daughter and I both pretty much have slept through night nursing and now I’m just frustrated and tired.

It’s because you are pregnant. Your nipples get sensitive. It might pass, your pregnancy might also dry up your milk and baby weans naturally. I had my first two 17 months apart, so my oldest sort of naturally weaned as my milk dropped around 14 months. My third child is 20 months younger than my second, and the same thing happened. He weaned around 17 months of age. But your annoyance is prob based on 1, needing more sleep as a pregnant mom of a toddler, instead of just a mom of a toddler, and 2, nipples being extra sensitive from being pregnant. :). Good luck!!

I am 34wks with my second and my first is 15 months. Nursing was tough, especially during the first trimester. I feel like my production reduced dramatically by my second trimester and maybe has picked back up in the third. I was in a lot of pain and very frustrated, especially earlier in my pregnancy and I was really worried about it. I kind of had to make peace with the idea that our nursing relationship might be coming to an end. After I made peace with that, my problems kind of went away and we are happily nursing along again. She eats mostly solids now, and we nurse usually once during the day when she wants to and before naps and bedtime.

Yes it’s normal! The Le Lecha League has a whole Facebook group for tandem nursing and is a great place for many resources. https://www.facebook.com/groups/llltandemnursing/

Yes, it’ll pass, especially second trimester will be calm and not annoying again. Don’t worry? Are you planning on tandem nursing? 😍

My milk dried up at about 14 weeks, it didn’t bother my daughter even a little bit 😂 now I’m 24 and still nursing her at nap time and in the morning
