Anyone have experience with using CBD oils or gummies while breastfeeding? And negatives?
Not recommended as there have not been enough tests done. It’s also not FDA approved. Most CBD company’s that claim to be 100% cbd and no thc aren’t. They just have to be under a certain percentage to say that. THC is very harmful for anybody and especially children whose brains are developing. And there are studies that say that THC passes through breast milk. I’d wait just to be safe. But honestly, wouldn’t recommend it for anyone to use under the age of 25 as most still contain a small percentage of THC (making it illegal btw)
My sons’ pediatrician recommended I use CBD drops to increase my supply when I was breastfeeding my twins. She recommended Poofy Organics.
How did the poofy organics work? My doctor advised that it might not be safe to breastfeed. How long have you taken it? Have you noticed any positives and negatives?1
I only took it for a couple months before I decided to start weaning from breastfeeding. I do think it helped with supply somewhat and with my mood but not any mind altering effects because there isn’t any THC in it just CBD. I didn’t notice any negatives in myself or my babies when I was taking it. I took 4 drops under my tongue a day after starting at two, as the pediatrician suggested. Btw I’ve never done drugs and haven’t even had a drink in 7+ years, I just took it to help my supply.
Thank you for sharing. I suffer from anxiety and currently taking meds. I’d rather something natural. When I shared that with my doctor she wanted to put me on meds because the effects of CBD in breastmilk in unknown so she wouldn’t recommend. I don’t do drugs either. Was just hoping for a more natural way to deal with my PPA.
Understandable. I figured you didn’t do drugs either just wanted to let you know neither did I since I know some others (not you) think anyone taking CBD is a hippie. Lol. I suffer from postpartum depression and have read that CBD can help with that and feel it did somewhat when I was taking it. Soon as I’m done weaning I’m going to start taking it again in hopes it’ll improve my mood again (just stopped taking it while weaning because I no longer want to increase my supply 🙂) Good for you wanting a more natural way to deal with your PPA, that’s how I am too. I was on Zoloft as a teen and getting off of it, even slowly, was very unpleasant and I never want to go through that again. I was no longer depressed for many years until I had my twins but really don’t want to be on an SSRI again. Be careful if you do get off your meds, go really slow and be prepared for some icky side effects. I felt so dizzy and couldn’t drive for a week while I was getting off of mine, among other things. Granted I had been on them for years. I hope things go well for you ❤️
Just be careful what brand you use (after breastfeeding- don’t recommend using it while nursing). THC is still ILLEGAL- whether you agree or not. CBD companies are not very regulated and most contain enough THC to cause mind altering effects (get you high). I’m all for natural remedies, but just because it comes from a plant doesn’t mean it’s safe (opiates also come from a plant). CBD products are still SO new and it’s impossible to know right now if there are harmful side effects- especially to children/babies. Obviously, you’re an adult and can make your own decisions, but I would just do some research and make sure the company you use is actually 0% THC and doesn’t just claim to be.
Side note: there has been a new law introduced that has made CBD products illegal if they contain more than .05% THC, so most companies are being shut down. So if that tells you anything about the false claims of “no THC” a lot have been making. Which makes me, personally, very weary of anything related to CBD.
I have been using CBD for my back pain since 2017 and had a baby in 2018(I stopped during the pregnancy) as I read that it can have side effects. I am taking CBD while breastfeeding though and this article has helped me a lot: https://greenthevoteok.com/cbd-oil/learn/cbd-breastfeeding/
