Cold Medicine

Hey Moms, what kind of cold medicine can I take while breastfeeding?

Most will dry you up so I would maybe try something homeopathic? Also, avoid cough drops and anything containing peppermint as they will dry you up as well. Feel better!

Not Sudafed! I pretty much stick to natural remedies — lots of tea, honey, lemon, hot showers. Cough drops in moderation are ok too.

Whatever you do, don't do cough drops with menthol in them. They completely dried me up with my first baby, so this second time around I am steering clear of them. I usually use regular robitussin for cough and congestion, ibuprofen for any throat or chest pain, and I drink lemon w/ ginger tea (decaff) and add honey. If my throat hurts really bad I gargle and swollow apple cider vinegar.

Simmer fresh ginger, cloves and cardamon... works wonders for me!
