Cold/cough/possible sore throat

My little one is almost 8 months in a week. She started out with a mild cold running nose and sneezing. We noticed her formula intake is decreasing than normal. She has been eating all her solid foods 4oz of yogurt (breakfast) and 4oz (chicken and veggies purée). It’s not her first time getting a cold.. we usually give her chamomile tea, a nice honest rub cream, humidifier with a few drops of eucalyptus oil and of course nose Frida. Any recommendations for sore throat remedies? Is it normal for babies to get sick so often? Thank you So much your advice! (First time mommy)

You can freeze the yogurt and chamomile and then give her little pieces. The cold will feel nice on her throat. Babies get sick a lot, especially if they are in daycare or around other kids. Its healthy for them because it builds their immune system. Just keep an eye out for symptoms related to the flu, ear infection, or RSV because that will mean a trip to the Ped.

Is there a nurses line you can call? I think they say to check in with the doctor if one that young is sick.

If you notice a fever it could be strep throat so if it persists over the weekend maybe have her checked on Monday!! It’s definitely normal, especially during the typical cold and flu seasons. My daughter loves things like frozen blueberries when her throat is sore so maybe try something like that as well as what you’re already doing!!

We do ice chips sometimes when my son is sick or teething

When my son is sick his doctor says to offer pedialite after offering a failed bottle! It’s sweet so baby is more likely to drink it. If she isn’t drinking much after 2-3 days I’d say call the doctor. You really want to avoid dehydration. But it sounds like all of your remedies should do the trick! I believe babies should be sick around 5-7 times in their first year. It’s ok mama, building immune system takes some sickness!

The first time my daughter was in daycare, she was sick every single week for 4 months of the winter season. Monday daycare, sick by Wednesday. Better by Saturday or Sunday. Monday daycare, sick by Wednesday. Rinse and repeat every week. She’s rarely sick now and in preschool 5 days a week.

My son was sick a lot the first year of daycare too. We had like 6 stomach virus that winter. Luckily this is the second year and he has only had a cold or two

You mention she is sick so often but didn't say how often...could it be allergies? At that age they can have a blood RAST test to check. Also, eating normally doesn't seem like a sore throat...what makes you think that's it? Does she grimace when she swallows? My kids have lessened their bottle intake when their ears were infected (sucking causes pressure changes that often hurt more)...maybe you can try formula from a cup. Good luck :-) Hope she feels well soon.
