Constipated two week old, continued

I've written before about our struggle with poops. Our baby is 15 days old and has only pooped on her own twice since bringing her home. I cannot keep up with breastmilk demand so i supplement with formula (1oz breastmilk 1oz formula) and not every feed, maybe three feeds a day or i'd be glued to the breastpump which is unrealistic. So most of her feeds are 100% formula, shown below as recommended by our prediatrician. We've successfully helped her poop with a qtip and vaseline in her bum - and she pushes out quite a bit of poop. The color is still dark green, occasionally yellow and seedy here and there. The texture is that of an adult stool, firm and pellet like. We've since added probiotic drops to her meal and occasionally feed her gripe water if she's particularily fussy. I'm not sure what of all these things is working or not working - because the desired outcome is for her to poop on her own, which she is not. We've been helping her poop every couple of days, because she would go 3-5 days without pooping and become very fussy, crying and constipated, we can see she's always trying to push. She's otehrwise burping, farting and eating normally. Anybody have other tips or suggestions, or have went through this as well? waiting for her to pass a stool on her own! :(

I went through this with my daughter as a newborn as well. It turned out she needed to be on a hypoallergenic formula. Once we switched her to Similac Alimentum it took about a week and she became a much happier baby and had far more “regular” bowel movements.

I think this company you use also makes a sensitivity version which may help if the dairy is giving her problems

Talk to your doctor. Many babies go a week without pooping normally. Her body needs to learn how to do it without you. Otherwise she’s going to become dependent on the stimulation. I’d call my doc and ask for advice.

Anna--check with your doctor, but ours suggested we add a little bit of extra water** to the formula to help with constipation. People are all a little different, and some people need just a little bit more hydration to not become constipated. In our case, it helped immediately! **meaning no more than appx 2 oz total additional water over the course if the day (depending on age).
