Constipation, continued - 1 mo old baby

Here is the situation. We've been struggling with a constipated baby, per the last few posts i've made. We've added probiotics, gas drops, gripe water from time to time. The pediatrician approved prune juice to test so we've been doing one ounce of juice added in two half portions throughout the day. It's been helping - but not without struggles! Poor girl cries and cries and pushes and pushes. I'm moving her, setting her upright, doing bicycle legs, massages, pressure points... She farts and burps no problem. She will eat and sleep without a problem but her default mode when awake is restlessness and fussiness - but the concrete kind, where she's always pushing. She's eating gentle lactose sensitivity formula, i supplement very little what breastmilk i have and try to feed her on my breast before i give her the bottle (i don't have much at all, but know its a good laxative and i try my best). A few weeks ago prior to prune juice she did infact have hard, constipated poops that we've manually had to remove with a qtip and vaseline.. with prune juice she does fill her diaper once a day with an enormous wet poop. The question still stands - if the prune juice 'resolves' the issue and she poops, why is she still fussing so hard, as if she has a very hard poop? I'm so worried about her and it just kills me knowing there's nothing i can do to help. Does it just pass over time?? Anybody else experienced adding prune juice? How long did it take to resolve itself? THanks in advance.

My 13mo old has been dealing with constipation since around 7mo.. We continue to get her 2oz a day hoping it’ll work. It wasn’t until the last 2-3 months where she’s only done hard painful poops. We’ve seen the pediatrician multiple times and he said what happens is the baby had this feeling (painful poop) and doesn’t understand what the feeling is. They will hold it in for as long as possible to avoid having to feel that again. We have been doing prune juice every day since around 7mo and don’t see much of a difference to be honest. We started her on miralax(1/2tsp once a day) 1 1/2 weeks ago and she had 2 really hard poops during that time. We went back and they upped her to 1tsp twice a day and it took 3 days and she finally had wet poop. We are still going to stay on the Miralax for a while (per orders) and hopefully that will get her back on track. It is such a difficult thing to just sit there and watch your LO struggle and not be able to do anything. I feel your pain. I wish you the best of luck!!

my daughter had the same issue, she’s 8mo now and we mostly just did the q-tip and vaseline method and it worked like a charm for her. eventually she got used to the formula and as of 4mo she poops regularly. we started her on formula when she was 1.5mo and had issues at first. the prune juice didn’t really help her as much, more so just doing the q-tip trick every other day if she wasn’t pooping on her own. so it’ll pass over time, mostly you’ll just have to wait until her body gets used to the formula and then she’ll be back to pooping like crazy. also our pediatrician told us to give her about 1-2oz of water a day to ‘loosen her up’ and that helped more than the prune juice, at least for us. now that she’s 8mo and drinking a tiny bit more water she’s been a lot more regular.

oh, we also did bicycle exercises with her legs to help get things moving, that helped a ton too.
