18 month old toddler coughing like crazy at night! Cough syrup, warm almond milk, humidifier, vicks rub and still coughing like crazy :( it hurts to hear him like this.... Any other tips??? Thanks!
You can try giving him a spoonful of honey before going to bed.
My son around that age would have that problem, still does. One time I notice his breathing seemed a little funky and I brought him into the dr and found out he has cold induced asthma. Coughing like that can be a sign of it, with breathing difficulties. The inhaler made a huge difference. I think for a normal kid you are doing everything you can and just have to wait it out, but just wanted to throw this out there so you can watch his breathing.
Zarbees has been quite useful for us
My rule of thumb is if it’s something that is keeping everyone up at night (and you’ve tried everything else) we head to the doctor.
Is he sick? If not, he might have asthma.
Yeah hes been having a fever and some diarrhea too. We called the pediatrician and they said keep doing what we are doing and he will get over it in one to two weeks. But he sounds horrible at night! :(
Try putting A vapor rub on his feet, and socks over that. It’s always helped my little ones from coughing all night
My son was like this too from a small age (months old). Finally pediatrician diagnosed with it being allergies. She prescribed Benadryl at night for the coughing, on allergy meds during the day. He is finally able to sleep at night. When whatever he is allergic to creeps up and the coughing returns, we bring back the Benadryl for a few nights until he’s not having the issue. Within the next year we’ll be doing the allergy test to have a more focused approach, but he is still too little.
Keep him propped up on a pillow in bed with you for a few nights and use saline In his nose maybe hes having post nasal drip? My son is also coughing like crazy he has a bad cold.. honey is good too!!! You can also call your doc and ask for cough/congestion medicine
Thanks everyone! Hes finally getting better. We propped him up, rubbed vicks on his feet etc and hes finally good!
