Daycare experience

My son is 18 mo and is going to start part time daycare. He’ll have lunch and a nap while he’s there. I am really worried about him napping, he’s the type that I put in his crib and he rolls around for a little while before falling asleep in his dark room with white noise...... at day care it’s lights on, probably some commotion and freedom of only having to lay on a mat AND their nap is an hour earlier than his nap time at home. He loves other kids and new toys so I know he won’t have a problem being there, I’m only worried about nap time because this boy is a monster without a good 2 hour nap! Experiences/stories to share???

General advice is that nap conditions shouldn't replicate full nighttime sleep anyway but seems odd they wouldn't at least turn the lights off for naptime.. ask again? Perhaps a cozy toddler nap mat with the integrated pillow and blanket could help with making him more comfy.

Yeah we toured during nap time and all the rooms had lights on.... not sure if it’s a policy or why they do it but all the lights were on lol yeah I’ll definitely bring his cozy blanket and puppy to help him get cozy

My daughter naps way better at daycare. She’s so tired and peer pressure. My only advice is to move home naptime to a similar time.

Hi there!! I think he will adjust just fine....my daughter is almost 20 months and has been in daycare since she was 12 weeks. She sleeps great at school and it’s similar, slightly dim, some music playing, and on a cot now instead of a crib. I would expect a week or two of him struggling with the new routine but then he’ll sleep great. The only thing that would concern me is the time difference...hopefully he can manage to fall asleep earlier, my daughter didn’t have that problem, the nap time is similar to her home nap time. But overall, I’d honestly say my girl sleeps better at school than she does here at home😌

B thank you! I hope he naps better there too, maybe I just need to see how he does before I get all dramatic about it 🤣

Give it a few weeks. But I bet it’s fine. I’d worry most about the earlier time and try to move yours closer. But it’ll be fine.

Julie- thank you! Yeah I was thinking of maybe waking him up a bit earlier in the am to where that earlier nap time would be ok... thank you, I’m glad it’s possible to get good sleep at school 🙌🏼

Actually now that she’s transitioned to the toddler room I don’t think they dim the lights in her room either, they did when she was in the baby and the toddler transition rooms but the room she’s in now it’s lights on. It is probably a law or something, ha!! I bet he will be okay after getting used to the new routine!!! Good luck!!

Look into buying a Tot Cot. It is made specifically for nap time at daycares. It includes a mat with attached blanket, so there would only be one direction he can roll. It also has a pillow and a "secret pocket" for a special stuffed animal.
