Dentist

How old was your Lo when you first took them to the dentist? My daughter had her 6 month checkup a week ago and the pediatrician said I need to start looking for a dentist since she has two teeth. I feel 6 months is too young to go to the dentist. She will not sit still and won’t understand what’s going on. I feel at one years old is a good age to go to the dentist for the first time. What do y’all think?

Most people I know started at age 2 but we scheduled my little one’s first appointment at 12 months, mostly because he has 8 teeth and is constantly banging them against the crib rails when trying to walk around his crib in the middle of the night. We want a dentist who knows him should he have a hard fall and mess up his teeth/gums, etc. Fingers crossed he’ll learn to fall more gracefully over the next few months.

Most dentists don’t see kids until 2-3 yrs old. My dentist suggested I bring my LO along with my visits to get him used to the faces, smells and maybe have fun in the chair...

Our ped “made us” see a pediatric dentist when son turned 12 mos (he also had pretty much all teeth) and we went twice that year; he’s now two. And his next time going will be our family dentist, who doesn’t see kids until age 3

I work for a dentist as her nanny and she said most kids go to dentist at 2. My little ones got teeth now so wanted to check.

Pediatric dentists say a year old, regular dentists prefer 2 years old.

I went when my daughter was 12 months. She had all of her teeth since she was 9 months. All they did was look in her mouth and give me oral hygiene advice, which was mostly common sense. Like no juice or milk at night and to introduce fluoride toothpaste after 18 months. I don’t think it’s necessary.

6 months within getting their first teeth. That’s what our pediatric dentist recommends and what we have always done and our kids love going to the dentist.

@Em they recommend fluoride toothpaste as it helps prevent cavities.
