Depo-Vera Shot

Hi, Has anyone been on the depo shot? How did it affect you? How long before you wanted to get pregnant did you get off of it? Thank you!

DON'T DO IT. I had to deal with trying to get my body back on track for a year and a half while I was trying to get pregnant

I was on the depo 2 different times in my life. As a teenager, and then again after my daughter was born. Both times I gained weight, which I knew was a side effect. But the part that bothered me was my period, or lack there of. Instead of having a week long period every month, I bled ALL of the time. And just enough where I needed a pad everyday, not just a liner. I hated it, so I switched and will not go back on it

I bled for MONTHS. I was very hormonal (even suicidal) and I was only on it for 4 months! I got off of it. That was the worst part of my life EVER! It made me gain A LOT of weight. It took me that next year to get pregnant

A close friend of mine had the Depo shot and it was a total nightmare for her. She gained a lot of weight and her cycle was completely messed up. She was only on it for a couple of months but it took her two years to get her cycle back to normal.

It’s different for everyone. I have been on depo on and off for 15 years. It has always worked great for me. I have a 3 year old daughter and we are now currently trying for baby number 2. I got my last shot back in July, so by October it had worn off and I got my first period. I get regular periods every month and my body went right back to normal. It does take most women about 10 months to a year after their last shot to get pregnant. It could potentially take up to 2 years but that usually isn’t the case. I never had any problems with the shot. It always stopped my periods completely and I loved how easy it was just going and getting a shot every 11 weeks. But it doesn’t always work out great for every woman. But that goes for ANY other birth control also. Works great for some and not for others.

I was on depo for 5 years after I had my daughter and I loved it. I never had any major problems except random bleeding the first year. I gained a little weight over that time but nothing extreme. I was always told to stop a year in advance if I wanted to become pregnant bc it could take some time. I stopped my depo in Mar to prepare for another baby and became pregnant a few months later in June. It’s all about your body, no one can guess how it’s going to work for you.
