Do you let in laws buy your kid clothes

Anonymous

My mil always buys my son clothes. To the point where he has so much and I dont want to add to the pile. So since he was born i barely bought clothes for him. Last week she was talking about buying more and i asked her to stop. I want to dress my own kid but my boyfriend has no problem asking his mom to furnish my sons wardrobe. I dont want to buy clothes that he has no need for but my boyfriend just wants him to have an infinite amount of clothes that we didn't buy ourselves. I'm really pissed because he is so happy to receive these gifts but all I see is my son wearing all these clothes that I never approved or never got a chance to pick out. What's a good compromise on this matter

I understand where you’re coming from, my husband is the same. His sister and mom will buy our LO clothes and I just don’t like their taste. At first I didn’t know what to do and even if I ask them to stop they won’t. So they usually leave the tags on, or else they know I don’t like giving LO hand me downs from other people so I donate them, it’s usually from Walmart so I just take it back for store credit.

I know what you mean. My boyfriend talked to her mom about it but she still did it anyways so i just put them in a bag deep in my sons closet and use them only when he sees her and buy him the clothes i want. This a mothers time to dress up our children. My son has soo many dress up shirts from her. I don’t see the need to put them on him? We went through the clothes together and i showed her what i don’t like but she ended up just giving them to my boyfriend. I put them in a box and never saw them again (:

So update* the solution we came up with is she will either keep the clothes she buys at her house and he can wear them when he visits or give me money to buy the clothes myself.
