Does anyone have a baby with a trach?

My son just turned one and was a micro preemie. I was just wondering if anyone else has a child with a tracheotomy? It’s really hard for him to even attempt to crawl cause of all the machines cause he can’t sprint. Anyone else going through this?

Hi Jordyn. I don’t have a baby with a trach but I do take care of plenty as I’m a pediatric respiratory therapist. Is he still on the vent? I saw you mentioned he can’t sprint.

He will be on a vent for the next few years. That’s a awesome job. I grew very close with all our RT’s. Insurance denied me the flex 10 trach that would help him be able to crawl and it costs about $350 per trach if I bought it. SSI hasn’t kicked in for me to be able to get the things he needs. Poor guy, the vent pops off constantly because of his chin.

I’m very sorry to hear that.. in the mean time is he able to do tummy time? Maybe with pillows propped up somehow. That way he can build up his core a little bit.

I try, but due to all the major surgeries he pukes if he’s doing to much. Our physical therapists are working with him every few weeks and teaching me stuff. Hopefully he can sit up soon and walk next year. He’s working hard and doing great. We just got the new trach (flex 10) I’m super excited!
