Early Learning

I have a 1 year old with a lot of energy and a willingness to learn! Other than reading books and the occasional flash cards, any advice for more learning games/activities? I plan to homeschool my kids and would love more than anything to start priming him for his future ahead!

Flash cards aren't all bad. I got them for my daughter because she wanted to play card games with the rest of us and I didn't want her ruining the cards. Through those shes learned her ABC's and can recognize her letters anywhere. They're not the greatest learning tool but I really dont understand why everybody gets in an uproar over flash cards.

@Olivia no idea 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m a FTM and have another on the way. So I’m trying to start my son on a positive, educational routine so that when his sister is here, he can lead by example. I just got all his books out for him to have access to and I have different sets of flash cards. It’s hard having a 1 year old that thinks he’s 2 but has the inhibitions of a 1 year old when it comes to grasping information.

I've had a hard time finding learning opportunities for my daughter because she's almost two, knows her colors, shapes, letters, and can count to 20. As in she actually understands the concept of having three of something. Flash cards have been fun for her to play with on her own and it allows me to do matching activities with her since I dont have a ton of time to put together a lot of the pinterest activities.

Puzzles and stacking cups and alphabet magnets are also a great learning tool.

at this age, i think the focus is to develop concepts - sorting things, concepts like up, down, falling, rolling, different sensory things, teaching emotions. at my daycare, they do all sorts of art, music, and pretend play as well. Good luck!
