Growth spurt? Teething?

My daughter turned 1 a couple of days ago and the same day decided she wanted to start waking up before 6am (5-530 instead) and not going back to sleep till 7am. She has also been taking a while to go down at night, anywhere from 45mins to 1.5hrs! She is still taking two naps a day (930-11 and 230-4 usually) and usually is asleep by 8 at the latest. This morning she woke up at 545 and she slept till 645 but only while I held her. Every time I went to put her down and just stood back up and cried. Could it be a growth spurt or possibly teething? She has been extra clingy and her hands are in her mouth a lot.

Try cutting her naps a bit or transitioning to 1nap. My LO changed to 1 nap right before her 1st birthday because she started getting up at 4:30. When I changed her to 1 nap, she went back to doing 11-12 hrs at night.

How did you transition? She’s still tired at 930/10 I don’t know how long I’d be able to hold her off. What is your sleep and food schedule like?

I just kept her busy during that time. If we are in the car or something at that time she will still fall asleep at like 9:30-10. I also moved her nap up. She gets up around 6am, eats breakfast, has snack around 8:30-9, lunch at 11:15-11:30, nap at 12-12:30, up around2:30, snack when she gets up, dinner at 5:30, bed at 6:45-7. She has also been an early riser, so that's why she goes to bed so early.

Our son just wrapped up (fingers crossed, I think we’ve wrapped it up 😂) a sleep funk that sounds just like what your daughter is doing. It was maybe a week and a half or two weeks, and then he went back to normal. Could be a growth spurt, and developmental leap, teething, or just a funky stage with no explanation! I think for him it was maybe a developmental leap making him overstimulated/overtired. I’d not worry too much about it unless it persists for a while. We just gave him more snuggle/holding time during the day, which he seemed to need, and a little more snuggle/song/book time before putting him down, then let him work it out for 10-15 mins (at which point he would CONK OUT). The first couple of nights we went back in to try to rock him back to sleep and I think it agitated him further. Good luck, Mama! I hope she gets back to normal soon!

My daughter did that when she was breaking out her molars and was also very gassy around one and a half. I tried cutting on naps but didn’t work. I fed her late at night and sometimes that helped but she stopped waking up around 2.

So we had our 1 year checkup yesterday afternoon. Doctor said her gums are swollen in the back where the molars are. So I’m sure that’s probably what the problem is. However, it did take 2.5hrs for her to go down lastnight after her shots 😢 This to shall pass
