Hi, i have a 2 year old son and I can’t get him to brush his teeth. I have tried singing, light up toothbrush and brushing with him but nothing. Please help me any tips
We tell them they have cavity creeps and that we have to get them off their teeth.
Rewarding with stickers? We have a ritual where daughter gets a sticker, which she then sticks onto her old nappy changing table. Looks very unsightly but she loves doing that. Also, if he doesn’t reach the sink, getting a stool for him to get up on so he brushes his own teeth. I say to my daughter that ‘mummy has to begin, and you finish!’ Sometimes it’s s struggle, but we somehow get there most days...
Does he have a favorite show? My son loves bubble guppies and there’s an episode about brushing teeth. After he watched it he tolerated me going in to brush his teeth.
I have problems with my almost 2 year old not wanting his teeth brushed so I invested in ZolliPops! They clean their teeth! Only 5.99 on amazon 😊
Same for us. I think it's par for the course with toddlers. Some days some tricks work and other days I end up having to hold him down on the floor to do it. Sometimes we have success with playing with the iPad or tv during, letting him do it some, bribery with a toy....some days are better than others.
Sounds like my 3 year old.... what helps? He fights me when I try to do it and when I let him he just chews it
My 3 year old son really likes helping brush his teeth in front of the mirror so he can watch and trying to spit in the sink just like mommy and daddy.
I got my kiddos (2 and 4) rechargeable toothbrush. They buzz quickly a 2 minutes, we call it funny buzz. I start and they finish. Also, our dental hygienist told my son that he has to brush of the sugar bugs so they don't make holes.
What are zollipops? And how does a lollipop remotely clean teeth?! I could totally get them if it actually works lol
Try the Elmo tooth brush you tube video - its 2 minutes and actually a cool song/distracts them while they brush. Works in our house!
I had this problem just about a month ago! What really worked was showing him brushing videos from YouTube. We loved the super simple songs one. So now, i have him brush his teeth (with water because he will only suck on the toothpaste) next to me while I’m doing it. Once I’m finished i tell him, “ okay let mommy check” *adds toothpaste* and Rebrush it.
Thank you so much great tips i will try tomorrow and let you know how it goes
Honestly, our pediatric dentist said to continue routine and encouragement, but they’re not surprised or worried about a 2 yo who won’t brush. Just continue to try and eventually your LO will get the picture.
We would make it a game and I Would say I’m gonna get you!! And then after a while we found a video on a channel called super simple songs on YouTube. And he loves the brush your teeth song. And now just takes the tooth brush and does it all by himself.
Get him to brush his own teeth in front of a mirror
I brush with mine and then after he’s “done” I tell him I’ll get the spot he missed. But then again he’s always loved getting his teeth brushed, i started him out before he even had teeth with a gum cleaner type brush. Also when I started him really brushing to clean I had him watch the Sesame Street, Bubble Guppies, and Daniel Tiger episodes about brushing teeth and bedtime routines.
I think parents still need help them at this age, because they might not brush the teeth properly. Anyway, we read a book about sweet tooth, and then my kid will brush teeth every day
My son didnt start wanting to until he went to the dentist. I just brushed my teeth in front of him and ever since the dentist he wants to do it when ever he gets the chance. Just let him play with the tooth brush and mimic you in the mirror then add tooth paste.
Let him brush your teeth first
We got a brushing teeth song from YouTube and played it while she learned, it still took time and building a routine for her to start doing it calmly. Now she stands on the sink and brushes every tooth while I brush mine, them let's me "make sure she is all clean" and go over them again. Then washes her face.
