Distractions definitely help. You could also do the brute force method if someone else can hold him down for you (won't work when they're older and stronger). It may be helpful to let him hold the clippers and pretend to cut your nails first.
I filed her nails instead. I had the same problem as you. Worked well. I used Baby Nail File by Baby Blue Giraffe..I dont use it on her anymore she's 3 and a half but it still works like it did when she was a newborn. I only use it now if her nail is bothering her and it's still a little short to trim with a nail clipper
I let my son hold my phone... or some forbidden object. Then when that stopped working we did YouTube videos on my phone... and then when I noticed that he was paying attention to me trimming his nails we don’t use my phone anymore!
I turn on baby shark and give him a toy to hold in one hand
I trim my son’s nails when he’s drinking his bottle. He holds it with one hand so I usually trim the free hand and switch.
