How to introduce whole milk to daughter? Plain or sweeten it?

Anonymous

My daughter is over a year now and I want to transition her to whole milk. Question is did you do cold milk, warmed it up? Did you add any sugar or anything?

My son never had his bottles warmed up so no, I did not warm it up or add anything to it. I started by adding half milk and half formula then after a few weeks I did mostly milk and a few oz of formula then when I ran out of formula we just did all milk :)

Don’t add sugar! Just do the cows milk cold in a sippy. I agree, if you’re worried mix with whatever she is drinking now

No need for sweetener, just offer it plain. My daughter drinks whole milk from her sippy cup at any temperature while at daycare but at home she prefers it warmed. Diva. 🙄

Try to see if she likes the taste of it cold. Some kids just might like it right off the bat. If not... then I would suggest mixing formula/breastmilk with the whole milk. The struggle for us was that my son would not drink milk cold or from a sippy cup. He was stuck on the bottle and I kept trying to adjust the temperature down slowly but after a certain temp he would refuse it. I also tried all kinds of sippy cups and even the same one as his water one but he would refuse. So what we ended up doing was getting a straw tumbler cup from target that he showed interest in. I mixed a little bit of chocolate syrup into the milk and started drinking it in front of him and making faces like it was the most delicious drink I’ve ever had. Naturally, he wanted to try. He really liked it and drank from it fine. Slowly I decreased the chocolate syrup until it was just milk and done! Transitioned to cold milk and off the bottle.

My daughter won’t drink it cold and she refused to drink in sippy cup so I still warm it up and she drinks it in a bottle. I’m trying to find ways to get her to drink from a sippy cup :(

At first I would warm it up, and I gave it to her plain. She liked it right away. My mom started giving her cold milk because she didn’t realize I was warming it up before giving to my daughter, she likes it better cold.

I’ve always given Colin milk cold. If you start warming it up he will always expect if. Lol they don’t know any difference

Thank you for sharing your experiences. She took a few sips of it cold from a glass. Hopefully she will start drinking more than a few sips to keep hydrated. :)
