Has anyone had one? How’s the recovery? I am leaving my ovaries but am wondering how the first few weeks are. I have struggled with fibroids for years and have tried everything else with no solutions. Totally done having babies so not upset about that aspect of it. Thanks!

I'm going through the same thing. Fibroid after fibroid for years. I had to do IVF to get pregnant because of it. Now I'm done having babies and have another giant fibroid growing through my uterus. I'm taking a pill that slows my flow down every month and I have an ultrasound every 6 months. My doctor said to try to make it to menopause if I can. I'm not sure if I just want to have the hysterectomy or leave it.

Have you guys had a myomectomy yet? Surgery to remove large fibroids. Look for surgeons who will discuss all of the hysterectomy procedures with you laparoscopic vs. open vs. vaginal). I work in the OR and see these cases all the time, however I have no idea how the recovery is, to be honest.

I have a long 7 years with fibroids. I had a myomectomy right after we got married in 2012. They took out 9-11 fibroids but couldn’t take them all in order to not damage my uterus. I got pregnant and had a miscarriage. I had a polyp removed from my birthing canal. I got pregnant and then had my son via c section (had to monitor monthly for fibroids). About 2 years later, my fibroid grew to the size of a 6 month child. I had a Uterine Fibroid Embolization which helped with the pain but didn’t kill the fibroid. About a year and a half later, the fibroid was cutting off circulation to my uterer to the kidneys. I just had a hysterectomy about a week and a half ago. I was able to keep my ovaries. So far, so good but I was lucky to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy and only be out for 2 weeks. I walked the first day of my surgery . I’ve been extremely lucky. Dr. Yenari in Sarasota did my surgery. He said the surgery went great. You will be extremely tired, but as long as you rest you should be ok. In all honesty, I think the recovery from the hysterectomy was better than the UFE, c section and I could also just be happy to have the entire ordeal behind me.

Wow, what an experience you have had. I have had 2 removals of fibroids and they just keep coming back. My doctor said this is the next step and I am totally done having babies so I am fine with that aspect. That is great to hear. I hate relying on my husband and others for help. Thanks for all your responses I’m going on for surgery tomorrow 🤞🏻

I know someone who has been through this. And she said recovery was a lot like a C-section.
