Ideas for dinner for my pickey 3 year old

I’m out of ideas I don’t know what to do anymore my son doesn’t like anything he was eating spaghetti and pizza and chicken and rice with veggies but now he gags and almost throws up if I make any of that for him he won’t try any new foods he will cry and scream to the point of hyperventilating his dr said not to give him anything till he tries what I’ve made but he’s gone a full 24 hrs without eating anything and I got scared so I gave him a pbj all he’s wanted the past week is oranges apples and any type of candy and up until tonight he was eating spaghetti but just now I made him some and he started to gag idk what to do he’s not under weight so dr doesn’t see an issue and says to let him be but I know how he eats isn’t good for anyone 🤦🏼‍♀️😭

Grilled cheese, meatballs, chicken nuggets... my son is picky too and those are his go-tos. Is it just dinner that he’s picky?

No it’s every meal literally all he ever wants to eat breakfast lunch dinner anytime of day is spaghetti pizza chicken rice and veggies pbj orange and apple goldfish or Cheetos and any type of cereal nothing else ever(except candy or cake loves any and all of that of course 🤦🏼‍♀️) we wake up and I ask what are we going to do for breakfast and he asks for orange or apple and a pbj then lunch he’ll ask for candy and I’ll say no and name a a bunch of other suggestions that he’ll say no to so he’ll have rice or spaghetti then dinner is fighting for about an hr to get him to try what I made all of us for dinner tried one bite gags spits it out and then asks for pizza or spaghetti or chicken and rice. He won’t even eat chicken by itself it has to be in rice

You should look up Kids.Eat.in.Color, either on Instagram or her site. She has a free guide to picky eaters and always shares great advice on kids nutrition.

My 3 yo is doing this too, he only wants "snacks" or "treats" some times I give him things he likes, some times I give him new things I think he likes. If complains or refuses then I tell him he isn't getting anything until lunch. If he really gets upset I say sometimes mommy picks the meals and sometimes you pick the meals, and I leave it at that. If your son knows you are going to give in and give him something else, then he's going to hold out for it. I agree 24 hours is a long time so I see giving I'm to that. Can you try having him help you cook? Maybe he would want to try it then? Or what about smoothies? Banana, yogurt, chocolate protein powder, even some peanut butter, or spinach. Also if he likes the chicken and rice you could try hiding riced cauliflower in with it. You can buy it frozen and just mix it in, I hide it in a lot of things, even for my own benefit b cause it's gross!

A lot of kids go through this. It's totally normal! My niece only wanted chocolate muffins for a while. The doctor said, as long as she is eating give them to her! It will pass.. just keep encouraging foods dont give up although it can be VERRRY frustrating. Try applesauce packages.. shape the food, get those cutters in his favorite characters or shapes. Make it more appealing for him. Also walk away dont let him see you watching him because he can be doing it for a reaction. Also, give him choices! Kids love to have a say. Good luck momma<3 It sounds like he eats a good variety of foods, he isnt as picky as you think. He is testing to see if you'll give him candy. Maybe tell him after he eats a good meal give him a tiny piece of candy. Shark tank has a little girl that sells healthy lollipops.. look into that? Also.. maybe trick him? Wrap up some fruit in a candy wrapper lol. Look up some DIY healthy candy that can be made at home.
