Marriage therapist / counselor

How do I find one? What are things to look for? Does insurance cover it? How do we carve out time to see one and also manage with two young children? Thank you for your help & suggestions.

My insurance covered it with a $15 copay. Check out what mental health things yours does. I found mine through a rev from a friend but you could also see who is in network and specializes in marriage. Try them out. We went right after daycare dropoff and went an hour late to work those days

Check if your employer has an Employee Assistance Program. I have a government job and we have an EAP that provides referrals to all kinds of therapists, 3 free sessions a year, and discounts after that.

We see a therapist through an online portal/service. It’s like skyping... I was skeptical at first but it’s worked really well and helps us schedule times that work best for us. Our therapist is available on weekends for this online counseling, which you don’t typically get with a therapist that you’d see in an office. We try to schedule appointments when our baby will be napping, or I’ll wear him and he seems fine in the front pack. We picked her and were connected with her through Lyra Health.

I also see a therapist over the phone. I found her through my insurance companies website. It was easy to set up and she was available on the weekend which was a huge plus. I don’t know if it would work as well for couples but I don’t see why not! Maybe you can find a therapist that is available on nights so the kids are asleep already

How do you find out if your employer has the EAP? Calling the insurance?

I thought so but regarding our situation my husband doesn’t want to contact HR

You wouldn’t have to tell them why you want to go. Just ask if they offer benefits like that.
