My 15 mo loves my hair?

Anonymous

Since my son was about 6 or 7 months old he has had this infatuation with my hair. While feeding him a bottle to sleep he will reach up and start to grab his hair then moves over to mine. He will wrap my hair around his fingers then yank and pull. Sometimes he will put my hair in his mouth and try to eat it. Obviously it’s a comfort thing but why hair? I have short lengths of where he has pulled it out. Help!!!

I have the same problem with my 12 mo so I’m looking forward to what people say about this.

My son has to touch our ears- every time he sits with us, he’ll play with his and then move to ours. Do you have it down or pulled back?

My little girl like pulling on/out my hair as well. But she likes to pull on hair in general. She’s 4mo. I wonder if it’s an explorative thing.

Hair, mouth, nose(nostrils), ears, glasses, even nose rings/earrings our LO tries to get it all.. even yanked out DH’s nose ring.. I think they get curious. I always say no no no when she tries to go for it and pull her hand away. But she’s literally gotten patches of hair out

I have my hair up in a bun about 90% of the time (mom hair don’t care) but he still reaches up and yanks it down and pulls as hard as he can! It one or two strands have fallen out he will put it in his mouth 🤢🤢

My 12 month old does the same thing and will even try to stick his fingers in my mouth and pull hard. I want him to explore, but not in a way that causes others pain. So I remind him to “be gentle” and will gently pet his hand or hair to encourage him to do the same. When that fails, I just move his hand and tell him “No, no. We need to be gentle.”

I taught my toddler to be gentle (took a while) and now he’s 4 and he is super good at playing with it gently He will play with it in my bed in the morning when I’m half awake and it’s so relaxing.

My 20 month old likes to brush and do my hair like I do to hers. I tell her to be easy and nice to mommy’s hair so she won’t pull. But if she does, I don’t let her play with it and tell her that she hurt me

I am going to try the be gentle suggestion and see how this works! Thank you for the suggestions!

It will take him a little bit to understand, but I’m sure with repetition and explanation he will understand :)

Mine does this too! When he gets rough (pulls my hair) I say “yes I have soft hair.. you have really nice soft hair too” and we touch his hair together. He still likes to hold onto my hair for comfort but the second he gets a little too rough he grabs his hair and starts petting it. I actually love it - Its a little silly but special thing we have together

My son has a hard time falling asleep without my hair, which I thought was weird cuz he’s been obsessed with it since he was born. I think it’s just a comfort thing, some kids have blankets and softies, some just want soft hair..? I honestly used to think it was so annoying until people kept telling me that they thought it was so sweet. I can’t put my hair up ever, but I just try and remember he’s only little for a short time. Anytime he pulls it I take it away, or remind him to be soft and gentle. Just keep reminding that being gentle is important.

Braid it if it’s long enough. My kids like pulling on the braid but it doesn’t hurt like just a clump of hair will. They lost interest in it eventually after touching/pulling on it for a while.
