My 19 month old doesn't like to brush her teeth!

She doesn't like to open her mouth, cries, she wants to do it herself but the only thing she achieves is eating the tooth paste. Please I need help with this!

I have a friend who had good luck with having her daughter brush HER teeth while she brushed her daughter's teeth. I ended up just putting my foot down with mine that they have to let me brush their teeth, but I can do it after they try ("just checking for germs!") In general, do whatever you have to do to get them to let YOU brush their teeth until they are at least 5. We didn't push this hard enough and both our boys ended up with cavities on the molars where they weren't brushing good enough :(

Have you taken her to the dentist? My daughter wouldn't let us brush her teeth. So I told her I gave up and we will let the doctors do it. The next day she went she HATED it. Ever since then I can brush her teeth fine. She goes to the dentist now just fine cause they explained to her how it all works.

Dentist visit does help..ours showed me how to brush and floss my daughter's teeth. I usually have 2 toothbrushes with me in case she takes one away and also if shes in the mood to choose which color toothbrush she wants to use.

This is what I do. Nothing worked except for this. “Mommy I want ....” me: I respond with something like “ well, you can get it only if you brush your teeth..” . If he wants it so bad, oh yeah he’ll brush. Lmao. You could also use/offer something else you think she’d really really want else to get her.

We found 2 tactics that helped: 1) voicing over all the food we were finding – "oh look, here's some broccoli" and 2) singing "ah-ah-ahhh" in the style of Ariel from the Little Mermaid to get our toddler to keep his mouth open. Good luck! :)

I started brushing my teeth with my daughter. I would let her do it once so she can learn how to brush the corners etc. But I did hers myself as well. Also, I have a doc game on my phone and she saw there were germs on the teeth on patients and she was supposed to clean them. She understood the concept and is scarred of germs on her teeth which can make her sick.

My daughter hated it when I brushed her teeth before! I mentioned it to a mom friend and she recommended me a type of toothbrush with softer hair. Since then, my daughter doesn’t fight the tooth brush anymore! She still eats toothpaste, haha

My daughter love to brush her teeth, but not at the beginning, anyway is good that you keep doing she will get the idea, things that work for us: try different flavors of toothpaste, give her one day break when she really refuse it, give her certain independence using a ladder that she can see herself, sing silly songs or play songs about brushing your teeth, her favourite song is one from Mother goose club. just never let the baby in the ladder alone.

Elmo brushing teeth song on YouTube or you could look up her favorite character and type in brushing teeth next to it. We get all into it and dance lol. Also my son doesn’t let me brush his teeth he only lets his dad brush his teeth. It’s like good cop bad cop. My husband sang a little tune “up and down” (brush the top and brush the bottom, and we also tell Him to say cheese and brush his teeth and push the toothbrush into his teeth while brushing) hope this helps!

He cried and squirmed the first couple of times so I would put his arms under my legs.. he would later lay down by him self cuz he knew it was gana happen either way. If they wont open you could slide you finger inside along the side of there cheek and push. A rice grain size of tooth paste is safe to swallow fyi. (I'm a dental assistant)
