My Son is 2 and not talking

My son will be two in December and he still isn’t speaking . He makes eye contact he loves playing with other kids . Grabs my hand and point to what he wants something but he only says mama . Should I be worried ? Do I take him in or should I wait.

Talk about it at his 2 year check up. The earlier your address issues, the better off they will be. And in a lot of states you need to have children evaluated before the age of 3 to be eligible for programs and services. My neighbors daughter didn't talk either, was evaluated, and they found out she was delayed by about a year. She she is now 4, has been speech therapy for about 2 years, and is in a FREE all day preschool program, and will go to kindergarten next year.

Discuss it at his 2 year well visit for sure!!! Some kids just need more time but your pediatrician should be able to assist you. Good luck!

You should get him evaluated by a speech therapist. Pediatrician can give a recommendation. Might be nothing but sounds like it’s time to see if some help

My son is 26 months. He says a few words but not many. He also does not point to what he wants but whines and we have to guess if he is hungry or whatever. Or he will just try to get food from the pantry himself and ask us to open it for him. We talked to the doctor and they referred us to a program run by the schools called Child Find. It’s free for parents and they do an evaluation and figure out best actions. Our son will be seeing a speech therapist 1 day a week, a developmental intervention therapist 2 times a month and we a physical therapist twice. They come up with goals on what you want to accomplish. They are looking for therapist for us right now and heard good things from others who did the same thing.
