Our 9 month old wonโ€™t sleep without being rocked until she is in a deep!

What are some strategies/techniques that you all recommend for a 9-month old that refuses to sleep unless rocked for hours? Itโ€™s starting to wear us out ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

You're going to have to break the habit, which is probably going to involve a lot of crying, so first ask yourself if you are ready for that because it will only work if you are consistent. I'd suggest using a modified CIO method where you put her in her crib awake and then go in to comfort (only patting/shushing) at increasingly longer intervals. So go in after 5 mins, then 10 mins, then 15 mins, etc. You can max out at 20 mins and then just go in after 20 mins each time. It will not be easy the first few days, but eventually your LO will learn that this is how bedtime is now and she will be a much better self-soother.

Yes! I fully agree with the above comment! We were finding ourselves so exhausted when our daughter was 9 months and finally after talking with our pediatrician, she told us to make her cry it out! It was awful and I cried listening to her cry for me! But seriously it was less than a week and she was done! Sleeping through the night like a champ! We were wondering why we didnโ€™t do it sooner! So now with our second, he just turned 4 months, and we started about two weeks ago. We would make sure he had a clean diaper and fed, and just as he was about to pass out, weโ€™d put him in his crib. The first couple nights were tough as he didnโ€™t really understand why he wasnโ€™t in our room or being rocked to sleep, but within 10 mins heโ€™d fall asleep. Now once heโ€™s in bed he self soothes and only fusses for a feeding once a night! Oh itโ€™s so nice! Happy we did it much sooner with him!
