Picky Eater

Anyone have a picky eater who you were able to turn around? Is it even possible? What did you do?

Picky eater in what sense? Like only certain types of veggies or like only eats chicken nuggets? My daughter goes through phases and I just don’t give in. Especially on the items she has already eaten and liked in the past but just doesn’t feel like eating... too bad. Eat it or wait til the next meal. Sounds harsh but it works and was approved by my pediatrician. I didn’t want her to go hungry and felt bad so I asked them. Not sure what your kids diets are like but when we started solid with our daughter we started with things like salmon, rice, and cauliflower. It was one of her favorite meals! Now she prefers other things, which is fine, but when I make fish and even eggs for breakfast she doesn’t want to eat it anymore. So she just doesn’t eat for that meal. What I’ve noticed for her at this age is she just wants different things. I used to make eggs everyday for breakfast... and she’s just over it. So I give her new healthy things. I won’t by junk food cause than I’ll make it cause it’s easy and delicious and even I’ll indulge in some pizza and chicken nuggets! But I don’t want my kids to think that’s healthy or normal, so I just leave those for special treats if we go out. But there also was a very busy time when we were always gone out and about eating fast food and restaurants, and she got way too used to it. That’s my fault for not packing food ahead of time. But because at home we mostly eat healthy she even got over all that food and asked for healthy foods! If she doesn’t eat what I make one meal, but the next meal she’s hungry and eats a whole salad, I chalk that up as a win. Just offer a variety or healthy food. They will eventually eat and won’t starve themselves. It may take time and lots of frustrating moments but soon enough they start craving and asking for those healthy food and prefer them over junk food.

My 2 year old is super picky now. Wasn’t as a 1 year old though. I’m sure it’s a phase and he won’t starve. Kids will eat when they are hungry

Yeah, my kids ate great up until about 1.5. I feel like I let them have a Gram-cracker and it was all downhill from there. My son actually eats pretty well. My daughter on the other hand ... chicken and nuggets and peanut butter. Lol

I think for the most part when they first start eating solids everything is new and tasty so they eat everything. Then as they get to a point where there “know” what’s really yummy and they are able to voice their preferences, they get picky. Also, I read somewhere that their ability to determine between good and bad smells doesn’t develop until after 2yo, and smell affects taste so that might have something to do with it. I just keep trying and use the no thank you bite and now that he’s 3 1/2 I really come down on harder if you’re not eating what I made then you won’t get something else later. He’s old enough now to get that and it’s starting to sink in.

My son is defintely picky but I only offer what I make for dinner and if he doesn’t choose to eat then he doesn’t choose to eat. I felt bad at first but at daycare they make one lunch and literally don’t have other options, so if he doesn’t like it, he doesn’t eat. I made same apply at home. I feel like he’s gotten better now because of that, especially when he’s really hungry! It also helps that we always sit together for breakfast and dinner so I show him how moms eating it and so is dad yuuuuuuummmmyyyy which kinda encourages him I think
