potty issues!

My almost 7 yr old stepdaughter won’t quit peeing on the couch. She knows how to go to the bathroom but gets too lazy and doesnt want to stop watching her show to get up and go. It’s driving me nuts!

It sounds to me like they're might be more going on than just an unwillingness to leave her TV show. I would take her to the doctor to rule out a physical problem and then to a therapist for any emotional issues she may be struggling with. Kids often don't know how to talk about it when they are struggling with something, so they will often express their problems in strange ways.

I fully agree with Nora. Especially if you’re still a ‘new’ step mom. I personally went through this as a child when my mom remarried when I was 6. At the time everyone said I ‘just didn’t want to stop having fun’ and blamed that on why I wet my pants. Having her talk to both a dr and therapist can really help

They have been living with us for about 9 months now. When she moved here she was still in diapers because as her mom put it she didn't have time for potty training. If she is up playing she goes no problem but anytime she is watching one show in particular she just doesn't want to pause it and get up. Did it again this morning in the recliner.

I would still suggest a therapist or counselor for her. 9 months isn’t that long of a time for a child to get used to a new home, new parent and new rules. The sooner it’s addressed the easier things will get.
