Potty training advice for boys

Anonymous

My son is 2 1/2.. he goes on the potty when I tell him to (only pee) He wears pull ups When I tell him no more poo/pee in his diaper he says ok and comprehends but he still does it! I tried putting him on the toilet with a potty seat but he doesn’t like it so we stick to the kids potty toilet where he sits and pees when told to When should he start standing to pee? How do I help him aim? How do I encourage him to poo? I know this is a lot but this is my first time !! Help please

Look up "Oh Crap Potty training" that book has all the answers for the questions you are asking. He has used a diaper for 2.5 years, they are comfortable, a pull up is just a diaper with a different name and bigger price tag. If he has the option to go where he's comfortable he's going to go in his diaper. Most boys sit to pee until they are tall enough to stand at a toilet and pee, so I wouldn't worry about that much my son is almost 3 and every time I try and get him to pee standing up he gets really because and can't do it. The book also has poop answers, but I was lucky and my son got that quicker than the pee. If you want good results you need to be consistent, putting him in a diaper send him the message that it's okay to go in a diaper. Accidents will happen and it's okay.

My sister used to put Cheerios in the toilet for her boys to aim at - they thought it was hilarious and would use their pee to push the Cheerio around. I think they were about three.

My son did the same! He could do it, but just didn’t. I looked up everything, then at his 3 yr appt, I told the doc he refused to poop on the potty (no matter how much bribe we offered). She gave me the best advice, she said it was just a control thing and to put him in underwear and tell him you will put his diaper on when he needs to poop. So, he agreed and peed on the potty and got a diaper when he needed to poop. That lasted 2 days!😁 He decides he’d rather stay in big boy underwear and just started to go. Once I stopped demanding it, he made the choice.

The reason kids poop in a diaper is because the diaper offers privacy. When you put him on the toilet, walk away. Don’t watch, don’t hover. Just go away. The poop will come out once the performance anxiety wears off. My son pooped first and we took a few weeks to get the peeing nailed down. Taking away all diaper and diaper products like pull-ups made it go super quick.
