Refusing Milk

Help!!! My 16 month old won’t drink milk unless it is from a bottle. I’ve tried everything! Different types of sippy cups, cups with straws, the 360 cups, plain cups, her bottle but with a sippy cup nipple. NOTHING works. I’m getting concerned because she isn’t getting her milk. I give her yogurt and cheese to help with the lack of calcium. I also have tried almond milk. She just won’t take any milk unless it is from her bottle. It has only been 4 days (so she might end up giving in but I doubt it)

That’s ok! Don’t worry about it too much. After 1 year, kiddos don’t necessarily need milk. Just ditch the bottles and consider offering something different to drink in the cups, like iced tea (no caffeine, no sweetener). Cottage cheese is another good option if you want to offer dairy, and broccoli and lentils are good sources of calcium, too.

Thank you! That makes me feel much better.

Understand that almond milk has, what, 10 calories a serving? Check the nutritional information for the brands you buy or you can make your own.

Just do cheese and yogurt and water and don’t stress it.

Do you ever share drinks that you buy yourself with her? Like smoothies or teas from Jamba Juice, Starbucks etc? If she likes to try whatever you’re drinking, try getting a straw tumbler, put some milk in it and add a bit of chocolate syrup. Just enough to taste the chocolate. Drink from it in front of her and make faces and comments like it’s the best thing ever. See if she will drink it like that. If she does, just slowly decrease amount of chocolate syrup you put in.

I tried having it and drinking it but not with the chocolate syrup. I’ll have to try that.

Blended banana and milk works great sometimes with a small spoon almond butter

Our little one will not drink milk or take medicine but she thinks coke bottles and water bottles are fun because the big people drink from them. Go slow but you might want to try it. Just fill a little on the bottom and make it fun!

Keep offering it! But don’t force it. Put it on her tray with meals, offer it to her before bed. Took my son a few weeks to catch on, but he’s pretty good about it now! DO NOT give in. You’re the boss mom! And a boss mom

Hi there, i tossed out all my son’s bottles out and did cold turkey style... it’s been 4 months and he’s still refusing milk from ANY cups. I’ve even tried adding chocolate syrup. Nothing. If he knows there’s only milk, he will refuse it and run away from me. He’s currently eating cereal with milk from a bowl with a built in straw (you can get them from amazon). He also eats a lot of yogurt, cheese, and hot oatmeal cooked with milk. Not ideal but something is better than nothing.
