Seasoning for Baby food

At what age can I add seasoning (even just some salt) to my baby's food? She is 5 months old and has been doing single ingredient purees for a couple weeks. She hated avocado, but I don't like it either without a pinch of salt. I'm also thinking about Thanksgiving. She will be a week or so over 6 months at that point and I was wondering if I could give her a few of the vegetables that were cooked for the meal. Thanks!

Honestly as long as it’s not super high in sodium I never worried too much about it...my daughter likes aromatic spices quite a bit. Will your lo have her 6 month checkup before thanksgiving? If so you can clear it with your dr but I’d be surprised if they didn’t encourage you to offer her some mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie!! You gotta live a little, even as a 6 month old:-).

Ya, her 6 month is before Thanksgiving. Thanks for the info! I may add a little cinnamon to the pureed apple because without sugar is it tart.

My daughters pediatrician recommended giving her mashed potatoes as her first real solid at 6 months. She HATED them. So I expressed that to him, (I worked at a grocery store at the time) and he told me to spice it up for her that I should know how to! Lol

My daughter loves avocado but only if I add a dash of garlic salt. Also for the applesauce we ran into constipation issues early so I didn’t feed them to her much but when I did feed them I gave her the Beechnut honey crisp apple purée for the same reason. The others tasted almost sour!!

I've added a little salt and pepper to her stuff from the beginning of her trying foods. I put cinnamon in her applesauce n she loves it.

Since we started solids I always offer what we eat. Seasonings and all. I think within reason it will be ok!! Obviously romen noodles are a no, but thanksgiving dinner should be perfect 😁

seasoning is ok! With mine i always tried to avoid spicy stuff, or anything really heavily spiced. When they were after a year i gave them things with some more spice. Be mindful of food allergies, mine broke out in a red rash after giving her a muffin with all spice in it. When they’re under a year, you want to really know what it’s their food in case of an allergy. I’d use spices lightly and know exactly what’s in the food given.

My son (7 months old) eats all spices! I just avoided added salt, but everything else he's all for.
