Shoes for 16 months old..

Hey everyone So my 16 month old Son doesn't like shoes 😀. He just kicks them out as I put it on his feet. I have the velcro shoes. Looking for ideas that I can use so he is not able to kick it out? May be some different kind or type? What do you all do? Thanks in advance...

Julie.. He is not just walking... He is running all over the house when inside. So I am looking for options for shoes when I get out of the house he likes to walk..

Oh dear!!!! I’m sorry:). Not sure, maybe something cool and fun like pull on boots??

My son did the same thing. So we got high top tennis shoes, boots, and things that were NOT Velcro- you have to tie them and the problem stopped. He keeps his shoes on now, without trouble, and wears the low tops converse, still loves his cow boy boots, snow boots, and other shoes we have gotten him!!!

If it’s warm enough, my kids run barefoot in the playground, sand, and grassy areas of parks. And sometimes when it’s cold, but not freezing. It’s good for foot development.

Maybe some high top laced sneakers? I know those are as hard to get off as they are to get on!! That is if keeping the shoes on is your only worry, lol. Children can be particular and weird. My first needed to be coaxed. I would encourage him with a character he likes and say, “It’s blue! Like Blippi’s shoes!” And now I just let him choose his shoes to wear because he seems to enjoy having a choice. My second sounds like yours and he always takes his shoes off or fights it. I had to disciple him a lot. We started very simple at home. I would explain we’re going outside and have him watch me and his brother put our shoes on. And put his on. His brother would get to go out, but he wouldn’t get to go out if he didn’t comply. It was pretty tiring, but it has gotten better now. I still remember one time he took of his sandals while playing on our lawn, and his feet got really muddy and grass stuck on it. I looked down and very dramatically said “ewwww” And made it a huge deal. Then he started wearing his sandals. I can see this backfiring someday, but that’s what helped last summer! We do compromise and let him keep his shoes off inside the car if we’re driving and if he’s in the stroller we put his shoes on the bottom. I think he doesn’t like the feeling of his feet being hugged or restricted. And my little brother who is the same age as my first (3), only wears sandals... seriously. Only sandals even in the cold and rain!

Have you tried light up or squeaky shoes? They make squeaky shoes that have an on and off switch. I think they’re the ikiki brand. My son didn’t like shoes at first but he always wants to go outside. So I kept telling him that we can go only go outside if we put shoes on. He caught on in about a week.

Boots. I put my son in boots that zipped and laced. He couldn't get them off and warmed up to them once he realized they kept his toes warm and meant he could walk instead of be carried.

Question: I noticed all the replies are shoes on centric. Why?

@T where I live it's not realistic for my son to go barefoot. His daycare required closed toed shoes at all times. Even if they didn't we have probably 6 months of the year where it's too hot or cold for him to go barefoot. So unfortunately if we are leaving the house he needs shoes. Edit: I just saw you live in Cali. Ya my cali family does that too because weather allows. My son got a strider bike for Christmas from a Cali aunt and she was mad I hadn't been letting him play with it outside but I try not to take my 2 yr old outside on days where wind chill is below zero. Op lives in Illinois. Not sure about her town but when I lived in Illinois it could snow by Halloween and not defrost til March.

Amanda.. You are correct. It's very cold here. No shoes is not an option.

@pk.. Yes he has those squeaky sound shoes. He likes those. But recently he has figured out a way to kick it off and has been doing it since.. Then he would play with it in hands.. 🤦‍♀️
