So my 26 month old still drinks bottles at night

Anonymous

Anyone else?? I feel like such a crap parent for letting this continue. She drinks milk and water from cups all day long. I know all about the dental risks of letting this continue. I’m going to take a 4 day weekend and just end it but I’m chicken. I keep putting it off. I feel like we’re the only ones still drinking bottles at night. Ughhhh.

Have you tried not giving it to her? Maybe she’ll surprise you! Might be some tears, but I’m sure it’s more of a comfort thing. Maybe she can pick out a new lovey to have in bed to replace the bottle. It’s really important to brush teeth before bed!! However, my niece is about to turn 3 and still drinks a sippy of milk at bedtime 🤷🏽‍♀️ don’t feel like a crap parent, of course you want to do what makes your kid happy... and let’s be honest- what avoids the bedtime fights!

Can you gradually water it down over a week or so? Just keep watering it down until it's water or milky looking water? She may just give up drinking it if it doesn't taste the same. Also at 26 months you really have to start thinking about how you want to potty train. If you are cool with keeping them in diapers at night for a while longer them keep giving the liquids. But if not you need to cut them out. And if you are planning on potty training soon, you don't want her going through 2 tough transitions because she will boycott both.

Thanks both. She’s fully potty trained during day and even naps and has started to wake herself herself up to go at night too. One of our biggest problems is constipation. The milk is already heavily watered down because of this but the water is important to her because even skipping a few oz results in rock hard poops. It’s a slow work in progress. We will get there. I think I just want to find a way to love the fluids to the daytime and I’m opting for the gradual transition. She does brush three times a day but definitely ends up with milk on her teeth at night. #gettingthere

My kid drank a bottle for nap until he was close to three, we managed to get rid of everyone except that nap one for a while. Eventually we just got him a “special” cup to use for that time of day and removed the bottle. It worked well. From what I read and heard once a day under three isn’t something to be worried about. Just keep working at it.
