Son scratches his skin every time I remove his diaper.

I've switched from one brand of diapers to another and it seems diapers irritate his skin. He would keep scratching his skin around the area until bright red. I've put on lotion each time to soothe his skin. He doesn't get rash or anything; just keeps scratching. What else can I do?

    When you say you switched from one brand to another, did he have the irritation with the other diapers as well? Or just after you switched? My daughter had a little tiny red patch on her lady part area after I switched her diapers. I took her into the dr and she prescribed a cream and told me to switch back. The cream cleared it up in a few days and she hasn’t gotten it since I switched back to the old diapers. You may need to get some kind of cream to relieve the itching as well

    He had irritations with the other diapers as well. I am going to ask his pediatrician about the cream. Thanks!

    Could be he’s just itchy when you take off the diaper. My daughter did this for a while; I would just rub the area with my hand instead of letting her scratch with her nails( she itches where the diaper is tightened) eventually she stopped.

    @Raji, did you put lotion on those areas as well? I try to do that too so he won't scratch too hard. He's done it hard enough to his skin.

    @Pad I haven't, I may try that too.

    Try aquaphor or vitamin a and d ointment before the rash develops. That way baby has a protective barrier to wick off the wetness. Urea in urine breaks skin down really fast.

    You know my son has done this since he was a few months old. Talked to the doctor about it and his skin didn’t look like anything was wrong. They said babies do wired stuff like that sometimes. He’s almost 2 and still does it
