Speech development

Anonymous

My almost-21 month old says about 20 “real” words. A couple more if you count animal sounds, which I’m not. He was born 2 months early so there’s that, but I know preemies are supposed to be mainly caught up by the time they’re 2. I’ve been seeing so much come up all over the place about early intervention and I’m wondering if that would be something to look into. My preschooler was always ahead of the curve in terms of development and speech was no exception, so I guess I’m just trying to get a feel of how my preemie is doing in comparison to kids his age. I see stuff about how kids his age are putting together two word sentences like “more mommy” or something, and I don’t think my son is anywhere close to doing that.
