Starting cows milk

Anonymous

My son will be turning 1 soon and I have been trying to give him cows milk. I tried bottle/sippy cup, hot/cold, added a little bit of sugar or home made date paste to make it sweeter. Nothing works. He will spit it back out. He is exclusively breastfed and never took a bottle. I am so ready to wean him off. Desperate for suggestions... thanks.

I just went through this. It took my LO a couple weeks to get used to milk out of a cup. She prefers straw cups, so we went with that after trying like 7 different cups. We also added a little chocolate syrup. It is honestly just a keep trying thing. My LO still drinks only about 6-10 oz of milk a day, but she has yogurt, cheese, and other calcium rich foods.

^ we did what Jenn did. My son was also more interested in whatever I was eating/drinking at the time so I drank the chocolate milk in front of him then he wanted to try. Decreased the chocolate syrup slowly until it was just milk. He didn’t drink much milk at first but gradually he started to drink more and more. Also another idea... can you pump your breast milk and mix it with the cows milk? Start by just putting a little bit of cows milk in and slowly adjust the ratio.

We put an ounce of chocolate boost into an 8oz bottle, it tastes like Yoo-hoo and adds vitamins. Our daughter loves it.

I also just read that the APA says a 1 year old can get all the calcium they need from 8-12oz of milk and other dairy products, so that's what I'm going to shoot for.
