Stomach bug

Anonymous

Sooo my 20 month old has her first stomach bug😭. She threw up 3 times and since the last throw up she’s eaten most of one pedia pop and a couple of crackers. She loves milk and keeps asking for it but the last throw up was all milk so I don’t want to give it again. Is there another milk that you know of that won’t upset the tummy?? Like a nut milk or something? Also, any other tips?? The pediatricians office told me to only bring her in if she gets a fever or has no wet diapers for more than 5 hours. Any help would be appreciated.

So my 16month old had his first stomach bug too. Just feel helpless with the vomiting. The pedialite and water is good to keep hydrated. Also applesauce and even yogurt is good to restore gut bacteria. Try to avoid milk for about few hours. And be prepared for diarrhea up to few days after.

Don’t give milk when throwing up, it makes it worse and she’ll throw it up again. Try dry toast, and then peanut butter toast. Once she can hold down solids and liquids you can try soup

Our daughter went through this last month. It’s terrible. Same thing with our pediatrician, she had no fever so they didn’t want us to bring her in. But once it got to a week, they wanted to see her. We stuck to the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. And lots and lots of water and pedialite. Stay away from dairy. For us the throwing up lasted only the first day but had diarrhea for a week than terrible constipation for a day than back to normal. She also lost a couple pounds due to not eating. But her Dr wasn’t concerned since she was staying hydrated

My 18 month old was sick last month with the same thing. Definitely don’t give milk. It makes it worse. Give Rice Milk instead. It won’t be where the cold drinks are but inside an aisle.

Thanks Dominique. Do you think almond milk would be ok?? She loves her milk but I tried a little today after no throwing up all day yesterday and she threw up again😓

I think Almond milk is fine too. It’s the dairy that you want to avoid so just don’t do the whole milk or 2% (not sure what you normally give). But I’ve given almond milk to my daughter before as well and she was fine. Also, same thing happened to us too. No throw up for a day. I thought she was better. I gave her regular milk and then she threw up again. So we stayed “off” milk for at least a week if that helps you at all.

Thanks so much!! I started giving her almond milk yesterday and so far so good...today I gave a little bit of dairy via some cheese and a bit of butter and still okay....I really hope we are seeing the end, otherwise I’ll have to just stop all dairy for a week like you did. Thanks again for the help!!!!
