Switching to Whole Milk

At what age did you switch your little one to whole milk from formula? Did you start little by little before they turned one?

Our pediatrician said not to start until 1. At 1 if we wanted we could switch straight to whole milk or slowly introduce it. We were on formula so we transitioned with our last container. It took about 1.5-2 weeks to transition.

We switched a little bit after his birthday. I exclusively pumped and thought my milk supply would last until at least 11 months and our pediatrician said it would be ok just to switch to whole milk then, rather than doing formula for a month and then going through another transition shortly. We only made it to 10 months with breast milk so we did have to use formula for a bit. I would just test it out first to see if your LO enjoys milk without having to mix with formula. My son was difficult... we ended up having to mix some chocolate syrup with his milk and getting him a special sippy cup. He wouldn’t drink milk from the same sippy cup as water.

I transitioned at about one by putting cold whole milk into a sippy cup and giving at meals. Since she wasn’t expecting breastmilk it didn’t bother her. Before bed she had pediasure from a sippy (we had weight issues)

The days leading up to drinking only milk, did yall do one cup milk, one cup formula etc throughout the day? Or just one cup a day of milk? I can always ask his pediatrician, but I figured I’d ask first hand parents.

The days leading up to drinking only milk, we tried mixing formula and milk but he didn’t like it. He didn’t like drinking plain milk by itself too. Rather than wasting formula, we just finished the formula and tried to find ways for him to drink milk (smoothies, chocolate milk). We just dropped bottles at that point too since he was drinking smoothies and chocolate milk. So we just offered milk in a straw cup with meals. And before bed. He drank as much as he wanted. Which ranged from 6 oz to some times 16 oz a day. Pediatrician advised us no more than 24 oz of milk a day though.
